It is said that it was the Bridge across the Arkansas River, and the Hotels that made early Tulsa. The oil and the refineries were on the West side of the river. And there were plenty of similarly sized small towns in the area, on the West side of the river. Gleenpool oil fields near Sapulpa for instance. But, the bridge on the Arkansas River, along with Tulsa having the biggest hotels, where many an oil deal was made, catapulted Tulsa into the forefront, helping it become the largest city in the area.

Tulsa has had some wonderful Mo-Tels. Many on its Historic Route 66 are now, unfortunately, long gone.
