Running Sunday mornings from 1:00 A.M. to 5:00 A.M., the KVOO "Oil Night Club", hosted by Glenn Condon, kept Tulsa's nightlife going. Often when the Saturday night music, partying and dancing ended at the Tulsa Coliseum, the band and musical acts would head up to the top of the Philtower to play at the Oil Night Club. Perhaps the most famous of these musical acts was Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys.
KVOO's 25,000 watt radio station (Purchased in 1928 by oilman W.G. Skelly) allowed Bob Wills to tap into a vast audience stretching from the West Coast, up to the Midwest, and even into Mexico. KVOO and the Oil Night CLub was definitive in helping Bob Wills and Texas Playboys establish their incredible musical legacy.
Audience space was limited at the Oil Night Club, but if you weren't a member you might get lucky and receive one of the Free tickets which would be handed out at the Coliseum.
Below is one of the members booklets from 1938, that would be handed out as a souvenir of Tulsa's KVOO Oil Night Club!
